The Oregon Supreme Court on December 2, 2009, approved an amendment to the reciprocal admissions rule. The new rule, effective January 1, 2010, will greatly expand the number of jurisdictions from which lawyers can be licensed in Oregon without having to take and pass the Oregon bar exam. Likewise, OSB members will now be eligible to become licensed in these jurisdictions without an exam. This new portability means that it will be easier for Oregon lawyers to help clients whose legal matters and business crosses state lines. It may also mean an increase in the OSB membership.
